AUDIO TIPS
1. LEARN THE MUSIC
In the recording, it is evident when someone is still “rehearsing” their music, you should be recording your final product, not a rehearsal session.
Having a good understanding of the music will lead to a nuanced recording (dynamics, diction, interplay with the other parts of the ensemble)
2. SET UP FOR RECORDING
- Check for room noise
- Tell your family you are going to record
Have two devices at the ready with a pair of headphones:
Device One: the device that you will press record on
Device Two: The device you will use for audio playback; Metronome, backing tracks [if provided by choir/necessary for recording], other folks in the choir that will keep your part in line.)
Make sure that the audio playback is going through headphones.
Use the ShurePlus MOTIV app to record your vocals.
- This free app found in the app store has a built in amplifier that will show you in real-time if your audio is peaking (going into the red).
- If you submit Audio that peaks, it will detract from the group sound of the recording. (Example of Audio Peaking) Your first recording will never be your best recording if you have nothing to compare it to.
LISTEN TO EACH RECORDING YOU MAKE
Listening to yourself sing/make music is hard if you have never done it before → treat it like a band-aid and just rip it off – listen to yourself.
Just like an important text/post, re-reading/listening to what you send out into the world before you send it is important.
3. SUBMIT YOUR RECORDING

- Ex. bari_noah
File Type: MP3/WAV
